The City of London aims to promote and reinforce the
competitiveness of the Square Mile and in particular UK-based
international financial services. The City of London works closely
with practitioners, trade associations and other stakeholders in
order to shape the future direction of financial services policy.
It focuses on issues created by EU economic, legislative, fiscal
and regulatory developments which may impact or threaten to impact
on the open, efficient and competitive environment for doing
business in the City.
Through a range of new initiatives involving senior City
representatives, the City of London has been working towards a more
strategic approach to cross-cutting issues which impact on UK-based
financial services providers and users.
City Office in Brussels
Responding to the pace of change in Europe’s financial services
sector, the
City Office in Brussels was set up in 2004. Its aim is to
strengthen relations between the City of London, EU decision-makers
and key figures elsewhere in the EU.
Programme for new EU Member States and Accession Countries

and regulators from the new EU Member States and Accession
Countries is now in its seventh year. For more information please

Pre-presidency visits
Ahead of a member state assuming the Presidency of the Council
of the European Union, the
Lord Mayor of the City of London, the
Chairman of the Policy and Resources
Committee and the
Chairman of the International Regulatory
Strategy Group make a visit to that member state. The
purpose of these visits is to discuss the member state's
priorities for its Presidency, discuss significant policy
dossiers affecting businesses based in the City and to convey
City views on broader strategic issues on integration in
financial markets.
