Network Infrastructure

The City of London Corporation is constantly looking for ways in which to improve its utilities and telecommunications infrastructure provision, which is the essential backbone of the Square Mile, supporting the needs of City businesses, workers and residents.

The Square Mile is serviced with vast networks providing electricity, water and gas, all of which are in the process of being upgraded. The City is also served by over 13 separate telecommunication operators providing essential communications and IT networks. The City Property Advisory team (CPAT) and Highways Management team regularly meet with these infrastructure service providers and are working closely with them on a number of projects to improve the provision of their services throughout the City. CPAT also work to a strategic 'Action Plan' to further plan and develop the City's infrastructure networks. Download Action Plan (16k)

Further information is available from the links below which give an overview of the Thames Water mains replacement programme, and the National Grid gas mains replacement programme, the City WiFi network, CPAT's City Telco Search and the improvements UK Power Networks is making to the City’s electricity infrastructure.

The City Corporation has prepared a Utility Connections Guide (available to download below) in conjunction with major utility providers in the City to assist developers, consultants and construction industry professionals in planning utility investigations, diversions and new connections to City development sites.
