Filling the gap in financial regulation

March 2011

The City of London supported the publication, by the Brookings Institution, of this paper that examines the use of macroprudential regulatory tools.

The concept of macroprudential tools focuses on managing factors that could endanger the financial system as a whole, even if they would not be obvious as serious threats when viewed in the context of any single institution.

This paper examines whether a set of instruments can be devised that can satisfy the needs of real world implementation, and how they might work.
