You are entitled to pay business
rates by monthly instalments or quarterly, half-yearly or annually.
The instalment arrangement is set out on the front of the bill.
Payment methods available are detailed in the
How to pay section.
What happens if the rates bill is not paid?
You will be sent at least one further notice to give you an
opportunity to bring your instalment arrangement up to date. If you
fail to keep to the arrangement the whole year's rates will be
become due and payable. Failure to pay the outstanding sum,
including any arrears, will result in court proceedings being
instituted to obtain a liability order. The liability order gives
the City of London various recovery remedies to recover the rates
and costs including instructing a bailiff to collect the
outstanding amount.
