Asylum and immigration

The City of London provides support, including housing and subsistence, to asylum seeking families and single adults. This support is provided under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 and is in relation only to those who entered the UK prior to October 2000. Those arriving after this date are supported by the National Asylum Support Service.

The Children, Families & Asylum Seeking Service is also part of the London wide rota set up by the Refugee Council and accepts and provides support to Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). UASC's are children who have arrived in the UK without an adult to care for them and are claiming political asylum. All UASC are accommodated under Section 20 of the Children Act 1989 and are therefore provided with the full range of Looked After Services.
